Rock like you’ve never heard it before

…unless you’re Jon. Or a Hookslide or House Jacks fan. Or you’ve ever been in my car when NPR gets to the end of their loop.
Check out Duwende, a rock band in NYC that makes fantastic music using only their voices and some kick-ass production. (What? They should get the same benefit of technology a traditional band gets.) But now that I’ve downloaded and worn out their FREE CD, I’d love to hear them live.
If you want a point of comparison, I would say they sound alternately like Duran Duran, Evanescence, and Eminem. A little bit, anyway. Someone with more music exposure might name others.
If you just want to try out a song or two, I recommend —
-
Mamahouse (dedicated to Millenial males, God love ’em)
-
Young Leaders of Tomorrow (Did you watch the SotU last night? Did you cringe? Listen to this…loud.)
-
Come Back (Kind of a heart-wrencher, this one.)
P.S. Did you know that Hookslide was one of five finalists for the Boyz II Men National A Cappella Quest on the CBS Early Show? No? Neither did I, but that’s pretty sweet.
