Parakeets poop every 12–15 minutes. In the time it takes a six-inch bird to prepare another dropping, at least four more people in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Maybe five.

To help change “four or five” to “none,” I will again be joining my fabulous team and thousands of others in the two-day Washington, D.C., Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. It’s May 3–4 this year, so grab your pompoms and tune up your cheering voice—we need all the encouragement we can get!

We also need all the money we can get. Last year we had overly generous sponsorship from my company; this year there will be a matching gift, but we need to raise a whole lot more than we did before. (And I am famously bad at the whole asking-for-money thing.)

So donate your pennies or blow your whole charitable wad in support of The Girls, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. It’s tax-deductible and it’ll help me reach my $1,800 goal. Double whammy!

Incentive: I’m hoping to walk the full marathon and a half possible. If I raise at least $3,600, twice my goal, I hereby swear that I will walk the full 39.3 miles—no excuses. It’s the least I can do.

Email me if you’d prefer to mail in a donation and I will send you the form and envelope. I also have information on employer matching, if that is available to you.

Just under 80% of the money raised goes to programs, services, and grants. Three percent goes toward administrative stuff, and 17.5% gets yours truly clean port-a-potties, a hot shower, and enough food to make me gain four pounds from walking 26.2 miles.
