Reuters has the results of an Americans’ Favorite Books poll, and I have every book in the top ten.
On one hand, I feel well-read. On the other, I seriously need to diversify.
Do you have any off-the-beaten-path books you feel more people should read? Books that, for some reason, impressed you enough to make you buy a copy for you mom and your best friend so they could share your awakening?

My two gems of late have been “Velvet Elvis” by Rob Bell and “Blue Like Jazz” by Donald Miller. I have shared each with those close to me.
A semi-distant third is “Wild At Heart” by John Eldredge. It brings up some great points about contemporary masculinity, but wanders a little bit IMHO.

I have a suprisingly small number of these books. I just finished “Soul of a New Machine”, which I found fascinating (and not just because it’s about what I do and my dad’s in it [sort of]). Newest favorite book: Deepness in the Sky, by Verner Vinge (SciFi)
An off-beat one that stuck with me after I read it was Dreamhouse by Alison Habens. It’s a quirky, drug-infused look at Alice in Wonderland. Shattered my childhood, but I love re-reading it.
