Smoking ban plan for Virginia, unofficially known as the Tobacco State

Fortunately, my two smoker friends quit on January 1, so this would not inconvenience them. One of them had been refusing to go out in D.C. since they banned it in bars and restaurants.

I’m all for banning smoking in enclosed places where others may be harmed, but it’s easier in a metro area where “going out” happens no matter what. The bowling alley I spent weekends at as a kid, however, banned smoking years ago and kicked off a domino effect:

People like to bowl. People like to drink when they bowl. People like to smoke when they drink. In Middlebury, Vermont, people would rather smoke than bowl. Nicotine never gives you the seven-ten split, and it’s easier to beat lung cancer than to pick that mother up.
