A mystery afoot…

Or afeet.
I went to get new boots a while back and had to buy a half size smaller than I’ve worn for nearly two decades. I was warned that this was folly, that I would learn my lesson for buying the size that felt right instead of my official size. But I’d been skulking through DSW for a couple of hours, so, if anything, my feet might even have been swollen when the smaller boots felt more comfortable. So I went with it, and now there’s a size 8 in my closet for the first time since puberty.
Today, my black patent heels feel too big.
I know your chest is supposed to shrink if you lose weight, but your feet? I haven’t even lost that much weight, anyway. I was prepared to need new clothes or underwear, but shoes? God help us if I need to re-vamp my shoe collection.
My feet always seem smaller in the winter than in the summer. I think it has something to do with humidity. Or maybe I’m just crazy.
Or maybe they’re just making shoes bigger. Vanity sizing for your feet.
Could be, although I haven’t noticed it before now. I also got a Kenneth loafers from their marvelous clearance racks that feel a trifle big at 8.5, but I couldn’t find another pair (much less a size 8); nor could I pass up 60% off black Kenny loafers.
Let the record show: I actually needed a pair of black loafers. What I didn’t really NEED-need was the Sam & Libby black ballet flats. But for $9, I’ll manage.
