A: I had So-and-So review that document. She is fastidious…which I suppose is good. But she did change all the periods I used in list items to semicolons.
B: Well, it’s not that she’s wrong…I’ve been known to do that…
A: Sure, but if I seem to be in a hurry, don’t you think you should be looking for more important things? Besides, Moses didn’t seem to have any trouble with his list, and he didn’t have semicolons, either.
Style? Style, as a concept in publication, is nothing but a compilation of good ideas that groups agree to abide by. It’s nothing but a construct, and it’s one that is less important, overall, than grammar, which is less important than the message. So by the transitive property, style is bupkis.
