Three cheers for WordPress — I am mapped and happy. Now, all I have to do is find time to play with my site. After all, I can’t just use a pre-existing design forever. What fun would that be?

I promise not to bog the site down with too many widgets and colors and bolding and fonts. I left MySpace for a reason.

Today I met with a consultant for a rewrite project on an outside site transitioning, eventually, into one of ours. His background made me smile and think about my future. He’s had a long career in publications and has related degrees, but he also got a master’s in publication design — that’s unusual, but very, very handy. He worked on his first website in 1995, which is about the time I made AOL my lifeline and got this whole tech/comm thing rolling (according to my statement of purpose). I guess, in a way, I saw myself in him in the opposite way one normally does.

For a moment, I had hope that there are others like me… I don’t see myself as irreplaceable, but we’ve had so much trouble hiring for my old job that I’ve been getting a little twitchy. Our recruiting experience is starting to give me “th’ big head.”
