My mother lied about her age, but not in the conventional sense. Going through her things, we found two driver’s licenses with two different dates:

CADL: 2/14/1953

VTDL: 2/15/1950

Neither was correct. I found a copy of her birth certificate, and she was born on 2/15/1953. So there.

No one, to my knowledge, has any idea why she wanted to be three years older than she was. It’s entirely possible that she mumbled the answer at the DMV and chose to adapt her life rather than correct the error.
